Titleist GT4 Driver

Titleist GT4: Exceptional performance with low spin. The GT4 Driver is designed for players who want to eliminate spin – usually over 3000 RPM – to create a more penetrating and efficient ball flight. The GT4 dual spin control setting allows golfers to choose between a more aggressive spin reduction or a more balanced and stable setting with a milder spin reduction. This is achieved by moving the heavier (11 grams) and lighter (3 grams) weights between two positions. The GT4 also has a smaller profile than the GT2 and GT3 models with a 430cc volume.

The performance improvements of the GT4 begin with its seamless crown and split weighting, where Titleist engineers pushed the internal weight distribution further apart, maintaining stability with weight at the back while shifting the center of gravity forward for greater spin reduction.

Seamless crown. Each model in the GT line is equipped with an ultralight crown made from a new proprietary polymer matrix. This material, never before used in golf club head design, gave Titleist engineers unprecedented design solutions regarding internal weight placement, unlocking gains across several driver performance categories. The crown is wrapped into the sole using an advanced thermoforming process, resulting in a clean look without visible joints or transitions between materials.

“One of our first goals with the GT was to be faster than the TSR,” said Chuck Golden, senior vice president of club research and development at Titleist. “And the only way to achieve our design goals was to avoid an all-titanium construction.”

“The density of this crown is about three times lighter than where we were with an all-titanium construction,” said Luttrell. “By wrapping the crown into the sole, we optimize weight distribution throughout the head, allowing us significant advantages in designing our center of gravity and moment of inertia targets.”

When moving to a multi-material construction, one of the main priorities of the Titleist R&D team was to preserve the classic Titleist metallic sound. The unique acoustic properties of the proprietary polymer matrix allowed Titleist engineers to finely tune the amazing sound and feel while still maximizing weight savings from the new GT construction.

Split weighting. The weight savings from the GT thermoformed crown allowed Titleist engineers to relocate discrete weight to optimal positions in the club head. Weight was strategically shifted both toward the front of the club, enabling higher speed through center of gravity placement, and toward the back, providing stable performance with high MOI. The center of gravity placement differs among the three models, allowing players to find the right combination of speed, launch angle, and spin for their game with three unique settings.

“The discrete weight we gained from the thermoformed crown allowed us to place our center of gravity exactly where we want it,” said Luttrell. “How did we distribute the weight savings? We split the weight, isolated it incredibly low and forward, and moved the rest of the weight to the back of the head. We achieved incredible speed along with stability thanks to this balanced weight position.”

Improved aerodynamics. Improvements in internal construction and weight distribution allowed greater aerodynamic optimization across the three models, a breakthrough that was not previously possible due to design constraints. GT Drivers have refined profiles that help reduce drag and increase club head speed.

“In our aerodynamic research and engineering, we study head shaping, especially the curvature of the crown and heel, to optimize airflow, reduce turbulence, and drag,” said Luttrell. “The result is a significant increase in club head speed.”

Enhanced Speed Ring with VFT. The exceptionally fast GT impact face features two key technologies. The enhanced titanium Speed Ring reinforces and stabilizes the perimeter of the impact face, producing maximum ball speed on center hits, while the variable face thickness (VFT) works to maintain consistently high ball speed on off-center hits, eliminating excessive distance loss.

“The Speed Ring maximizes COR at the center and consequently maximizes ball speed,” said Luttrell. “But the Speed Ring naturally limits the perimeter of the impact face, which could lead to lower performance off-center. That’s where VFT comes in. VFT effectively allows us to discreetly thin the face, expand the size of the sweet spot, and maximize speed on off-center strikes.”

Tour-inspired graphics. The GT models feature new face graphics designed to make it easier to align precisely behind the ball. This change, driven by specific prototyping and Tour player feedback, helps golfers align the golf ball with the center of the head with greater confidence.
