Ping S259 Midnight Wedge
The S259 model builds on the successful S159 series and raises the level of spin and control even higher. New grind adjustments and an expanded loft range allow for more precise fitting for players of all skill levels.
Tour-preferred head shape
The compact head profile is based on the demands of professionals. The shape elegantly "embraces" the golf ball at address and creates a clean look behind the ball. The smooth transition of the hosel and the sole groove running across the entire width of the striking face support visual confidence at address.
A larger elastomer insert inside the 8620 carbon steel head ensures a soft, muted feel at impact, preferred by Tour players. The result is precise feedback without unpleasant vibrations.
High friction. Maximum spin.
Wheel-cut grooves combined with a fully milled striking face and advanced face-blast technology increase surface texture and maximize friction at impact. This means:
- higher spin
- better distance control
- lower and penetrating ball flight trajectory.
Additionally, the grooves are milled with different dimensions according to loft, optimizing spin for full shots as well as delicate chips around the green.
Surface finishes for performance
All combinations of lofts and grinds are available in two finishes:
- Hydropearl 2.0 Chrome – a water-repellent finish that helps maintain control and consistency even in wet conditions or from rough.
- Midnight – dark, anti-glare finish that eliminates reflections and gives the club an attractive, Tour look.
Overview of grinds
- B Grind: Low bounce, wider sole. Ideal for players with a shallow attack angle and square face alignment. Sits low to the ground and offers sufficient forgiveness even on firmer surfaces. Lofts: 58°, 60°.
- H Grind: Developed based on the PING WRX “half-moon” shape. Versatile in softer conditions, suitable for steeper swings. Supports various face and hand positions and ensures excellent turf interaction. Lofts: 54°, 56°, 58°, 60°.
- S Grind: Universal option for a wide range of players. Medium bounce supports full shots with a square face, while heel and trailing edge relief allows creativity around the green. Lofts: 46°–60°.
- W Grind: Maximum forgiveness when passing through turf. Designed for steep attack angles and players with more forward shaft lean. Suitable for those who want the look of a specialized Wedge but need higher error tolerance. Lofts: 50°–60°.
- E Grind: Shape inspired by Eye2. Specific cutout in the middle of the sole provides softer and more controlled shots from tightly mown surfaces. The rear part with higher bounce gives confidence when playing from bunkers. Lofts: 58°, 60°.
- T Grind: Lowest effective bounce (6°). The most versatile grind with pronounced trailing edge relief for easier opening of the face. Great on hard and firmer surfaces. Lofts: 58°, 60°, 62°.
Complete system solution
The S259 is not just a club head. The new Dyla-Grip and lightweight Z-Z115 shaft are designed as a whole to enhance Wedge performance. The grip is ¾" longer, with less taper for better control. It includes visual indicators for different grip positions, shortened hold, shaft lean, and face manipulation. The low balance point of the shaft supports better feel of the club head during short game shots.
The PING S259 Midnight Wedge is ideal for players who want maximum spin control, precise distance, and the ability to finely tune to their swing. It combines Tour looks, a soft feel at impact, and top technology for confidence on every shot to the green.
