Ping S259 Midnight Wedge
The S259 model builds on the successful S159 range, taking spin and control to an even higher level. New grind updates and an expanded range of lofts enable more precise fitting for players of all skill levels.
Tour-preferred head shape
The compact head profile is based on the requirements of professionals. The shape elegantly “hugs” the golf ball at address and creates a clean look behind the ball. The smooth hosel transition and sole groove running across the full width of the impact area promote confidence at address.
A larger elastomer insert inside the 8620 carbon steel head delivers the soft, muted feel preferred by Tour players. The result is precise feedback without unpleasant vibrations.
High friction. Maximum spin.
Wheel-cut grooves, combined with a fully machined impact area and advanced face-blast technology, increase surface texture and maximize friction at impact. This means:
- higher spin
- better distance control
- a lower, penetrating ball flight.
The grooves are also milled with different dimensions according to loft, optimizing spin for full shots and delicate shots around the green.
Performance finishes
All loft and grind combinations are available in two finishes:
- Hydropearl 2.0 Chrome – a hydrophobic finish that repels moisture, helping maintain control and consistency in wet conditions or from the rough.
- Midnight – dark, an anti-glare finish that eliminates reflections and gives the wedge an attractive Tour look.
Grind overview
- B Grind: Low bounce with a wider sole. Ideal for players with a shallow angle of attack and a square impact face. Sits low to the ground and provides sufficient forgiveness, even on firmer surfaces. Lofts: 58°, 60°.
- H Grind: Developed from the PING WRX “half-moon” shape. Versatile in softer conditions and suitable for a steeper swing. Supports different impact face and hand positions while providing excellent turf interaction. Lofts: 54°, 56°, 58°, 60°.
- S Grind: A versatile option for a wide range of players. Mid bounce supports full shots with a square impact face, while the heel and trailing-edge relief allows creativity around the green. Lofts: 46°–60°.
- W Grind: Maximum forgiveness through the turf. Designed for a steep angle of attack and players with greater forward shaft lean. Ideal for those who want the look of a specialized Wedge but need greater forgiveness. Lofts: 50°–60°.
- E Grind: Eye2-inspired shape. A specific relief in the middle section of the sole delivers softer, more controlled shots from closely mown surfaces. The higher-bounce trailing section provides confidence from bunkers. Lofts: 58°, 60°.
- T Grind: Lowest effective bounce (6°). The most versatile grind, with significant trailing-edge relief for easier opening of the impact face. Excellent on hard and firm surfaces. Lofts: 58°, 60°, 62°.
A complete system solution
The S259 is more than just a clubhead. The new Dyla-Grip and lightweight Z-Z115 shaft are designed as a complete system to enhance Wedge performance. The grip is ¾" longer, with less taper for improved control. It features visual indicators for different grip positions, grip shortening, shaft lean, and impact face manipulation. The shaft’s low balance point promotes better awareness of the clubhead during the short game.
The PING S259 Midnight Wedge is ideal for players who want maximum spin control, precise distance control, and the ability to fine-tune the club to their swing. It combines a Tour look, soft feel at impact, and advanced technology for confidence on every shot into the green.
